Commercial - Businesses

Businesses are responsible for posting "No Smoking" signs under the West Hollywood Municipal Code. Signs MUST:

• Be at least 8 inch x 10 inch in size
• Include “No Smoking” with letters no less than 1-inch in height
• Include the international “No Smoking” symbol (the pictorial representation of a burning cigarette enclosed in a red circle with a diagonal red bar)
• Be Located:
  • On a wall not less than 8 feet nor more than 10 feet above floor level; or
  • On Moveable freestanding signs between 3 feet and 5 feet in height.
  • In rooms containing tables for patrons or customers, an additional sign not less than four inches by six inches in size containing the same message in the same size lettering shall be placed on each table.
• Each sign must also include a reference to “Chapter 7.08 of the West Hollywood Municipal Code,” a telephone number designated by the City to which complaints of violations of this chapter may be reported.

No Smoking Signs should be clearly, sufficiently and conspicuously posted by the owner, operator, manager or other person having control of every room, building or other place where smoking is regulated.

Residential - Multi-Family Dwellings

Landlords or homeowners' associations for every multi-family dwelling are responsible for posting "No Smoking" signs under the West Hollywood Municipal Code. Signs MUST:

• Include state "No Smoking" or "Smoke Free" with letters no less than one inch in height or the international "No Smoking" symbol (pictorial representation of a burning cigarette enclosed in a red circle with a red bar across it)
• Be clearly, sufficiently, and conspicuously posted in every Common Area of every Multi-Family Dwelling
