It is the primary goal of the Department of Public Works to upgrade existing buildings and infrastructure; to improve the transportation system by working to improve vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic; and to develop parking opportunities by exploring the creation of off-street parking opportunities near all business districts. The Department of Public Works does this through the following ongoing Division operations and special projects.

The Department also collaborates with the Urban Design + Architecture Studio on a variety of projects to promote the connection between people and places and citywide design.

EngineeringThe Engineering Division provides management of infrastructure located within the public right-of-way in order to respond to constituents' needs while finding cost-effective solutions to ensure a high quality of life for the community. This includes capital improvements, maintenance, and emergency operation activities for roads, sidewalks, sewers, storm drains, street lighting, and traffic signals. Additionally, the Division manages impacts to these facilities with utility companies, private developers, and the public through administration of the Encroachment Permit Program. These are permits pertaining to the public right-of-way and include activities that impact the city's sidewalks and streets. Contact |

Facilities & Field ServicesThe Facilities and Field Services Division provides maintenance, repair, and improvement services to City-owned and leased buildings, streets, sidewalks, medians, landscaped areas, parks, public trees, graffiti removal, and City vehicles. The Division leads capital projects for City parks, City facilities, and streetscape improvements. The Division operates as staff lead and liaison to the City's Public Facilities Commission which meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Contact |

Parking ServicesThe Parking Services Division is charged with promoting and developing parking opportunities throughout the City, in order to improve the quality of residential life and facilitate the ease with which visitors patronize commercial enterprises. The Division operates and manages the City’s parking resources and programs including parking enforcement (citation processing, collections, and adjudication); permit parking; on-street meter parking; public parking facilities; off-street parking facilities; residential parking permits; bike racks; and parking signage.
