Do you own a business or property? A Letter of Agency allows you, as the owner or agent for the owner of such a property, to give permission to the Sheriff's Department to check your business or property for trespassers and other individuals who don't belong, and arrest them as necessary. The Letter of Agency gives authority to the Sheriff's Department to detain anyone found on your property when you're not there to determine if they are allowed to be there.

In order to assist the Sheriff's Department in the prosecution of trespassers on your residential or commercial property, the Sheriff's Department has implemented a Letter of Agency program. Owners, managers, or tenants of a property can authorize Deputies of the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station to arrest and remove any person present on the property without lawful business. Property owners can sign up to twelve months of letters at a time to be kept on file at the West Hollywood Station.

If you have any questions regarding the requirements of a Letter of Agency, please contact the West Hollywood COPPS Team at 310-855-8850 ext. 4034 (answering machine).
