Any business or commercial development interested in placing a mural on a wall, building, construction site or other location in West Hollywood, must use an artist approved by the City. Approved artists will be placed on the WEHO Muralist Roster as a resource for anyone seeking an artist for a mural project - businesses or property owners, schools, private developers or other public art programs. The intent of the roster is to provide users with a range of artistic styles from which to select an artist that fits the need of a particular project.
Artists who wish to be considered for the WEHO Muralist Roster must submit their qualifications for review by the Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission. Artists included on the Roster demonstrate the skills, experience and interest to design and paint large scale paintings, murals and/or art on construction fencing. The Roster includes a brief statement from the artist, contact information, city of primary residence, exemplary images of their past mural work, as well as links to artist's websites and social media outlets that will allow further exploration of the individual artistic practice. (While artists who are approved by the Subcommittee will be placed on the WEHO Muralist Roster, the proposed mural work must still be reviewed by the Subcommittee under a separate process.)
WEHO Muralist Roster Application [online application]
Artist applications are accepted online on an ongoing basis and will be reviewed by the Art on the Outside Subcommittee bi-annually - March and September. All applications are considered using the following criteria:
- Proven artistic merit and strong professional qualifications as demonstrated through previous public art experience or gallery and/or museum exhibitions
- Ability to execute a high quality artwork as demonstrated in the images of past mural work and/or public exhibitions
Applications received between March 1 and August 31 will be reviewed in September. Applications received between September 1 and February 28/29 will be reviewed in March. Incomplete applications will not be considered for review. Applications received with a Commercial Business Mural Application will be reviewed in tandem to the application.
