Traffic Safety Measures

NTMP projects typically use a 3 “E” approach, Education, Enforcement and Engineering, when considering possible solutions for improving traffic safety.

  1. Education alerts people to ways they can help ease traffic problems – for example, by reducing their speed, travelling by bicycle, walking, or public transit.

  2. Enforcement enlists the help of the West Hollywood Sheriff Traffic Officers to focus efforts on specific streets to increase community awareness of speeding problems.

  3. Engineering tools include a variety of traffic management devices that redesign the street to control traffic volumes, decrease traffic speeds, create safer walking and bicycling conditions, and maintain or improve an attractive streetscape.

The following traffic management devices are typically used:

Traffic management devices must conform to the City of West Hollywood Municipal Code as well as applicable county, state and federal standards. Staff is always evaluating/researching other safety enhancements to add to the NTMP toolbox.
