Traffic Management Program

Program Overview

The City's Neighborhood Traffic Management Program (NTMP) is a community based process that begins and ends with residents and community members to find solutions to traffic problems on neighborhood streets. The goal of the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program (NTMP) is to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods by developing and implementing innovative and effective transportation solutions to make residential streets safer and more comfortable for everyone to use.

The NTMP establishes a process whereby the community and the City work together to identify and solve traffic related problems on neighborhood (local) streets by considering various traffic calming solutions. As options are considered, the surrounding street network must be carefully evaluated to avoid shifting impacts from one area to another.

The NTMP’s traffic calming objectives focus on:

  1. Reducing cut-through traffic
  2. Slowing traffic on residential streets
  3. Creating safer walking and bicycling conditions
  4. Providing greening opportunities

In addition, the program prioritizes projects for funding and implementation. Prioritization of the projects is based on vehicle volumes, speeds, accidents, pedestrian generators and bike lanes.

The NTMP is one of number of way the city seeks to address traffic and quality of life.
