Information About the Local West Hollywood Election and Measure E

In today’s challenging climate, the City of West Hollywood is working to preserve the services to help our City recover from the current crisis, including protecting public health, working with local non-profits to help community members in need, and helping local businesses survive.

But COVID-19 impacts on the City’s finances have been significant to date, with an estimated loss of up to $35,000,000 this year and next, impacting the City’s ability to maintain local services.

Unfortunately, West Hollywood has not been able to rely upon the State or Federal Government to help address our local needs.

Measure E

On August 3, the West Hollywood City Council unanimously placed Measure E on the November ballot for voter consideration. If approved by West Hollywood Voters, Measure E would enact a ¾ cent local sales tax to address the COVID-19 shortfall, and maintain the services West Hollywood residents have indicated are important, including:

  • Addressing homelessness
  • Expanding health and mental health services
  • Retaining local businesses and jobs
  • Keeping public areas clean and safe
  • Maintaining HIV and AIDS health services
  • Supporting disaster preparedness

Measure E Accountability

Measure E contains accountability requirements including annual independent financial audits, and public review of expenditures during an annual public hearing. By law, Measure E funds must remain in the City of West Hollywood and cannot be taken by the State.

Information About the Upcoming Municipal Election

The West Hollywood Local Ballot will contain candidates for the City Council and Local Measure E.

With the State’s historic all-mail ballot, this year’s voting procedures will be different!

The State of California has enacted new laws which will change how our November 2020 election is conducted:

  • Counties will now be mandated to mail all active registered voters a mail-in ballot.
  • In person voting will still be permissible. Visit www.lavote.net or www.weho.org/election for more information.

Please make an informed decision in the upcoming Municipal Election as we work to help West Hollywood recover, and keep it a great place to live, work, and do business.
