Read the West Hollywood Green Building Program Manual to familiarize yourself with state and local green building requirements and applicability for plan check.

All residential projects must hire an ICC-Certified CALGreen Building Inspector prior to submitting for plan check. More information on local ICC-Certified professionals can be found here. 

The CALGreen Green Building Inspector must review and sign the CALGreen checklist prior to submitting for plan check.  The CALGreen Building Inspector will review the project's contract documents in accordance with CALGreen and West Hollywood mandatory provisions. The applicant must submit a Green Building Inspection Agreement with each project application. See the Residential Green Building Inspection Guidelines for more information.

Include the applicable green building checklist into the plan set: (1) GB-1 NonRes for New Construction or (2) GB-2 NonRes for Additions, Alterations, and Initial Tenant Improvements. Projects must include the applicable design elements and sheet notes in the documents for planning review. Applicants pursuing a third-party rating system must show in their application how their project complies with local and state green building requirements in addition to third-party rating system requirements.

The CALGreen Green Building Inspector must review and sign the applicable Nonresidential Green Building Checklist: (1) GB-1 NonRes for New Construction or (2) GB-2 NonRes for Additions, Alterations, and Initial Tenant Improvements prior to submitting for plan check.  The CALGreen Building Inspector will review the project's contract documents in accordance with CALGreen and West Hollywood mandatory provisions. The applicant must submit a Green Building Inspection Agreement with each project application. See the Nonresidential Green Building Guidelines for more information.

For all new nonresidential buildings, Building Commissioning is required in accordance the California Energy Code Section 120.8. For projects less than 10,000 square feet, only the design review requirements shall be completed. Submit the compliance forms for OPR, BOD, and the commissioning plan as part of the plan check application. Complete compliance forms for all other requirements and submit all supporting documentation to the West Hollywood Building & Safety Division prior to final inspection. • CALGreen – Documentation & Training Compliance Form (Form GRN 25)
• CALGreen – Commissioning Report Compliance Form (Form GRN 26)

The General Contractor (GC) shall schedule the Green Building Incremental Verification prior to Rough Inspection with the West Hollywood Building & Safety Division at 323.984.7321 after preliminary approval by the CALGreen Building Inspector is confirmed. Prepare all required submittals and a signed Green Building Checklist (GB-1 NonRes or GB-2 NonRes). Ensure the required Nonresidential CALGreen Certificate of Compliance form and all supporting documentation are completed and ready for review in accordance with the Nonresidential Green Building Inspection Guidelines.

The General Contractor shall schedule the Green Building Final Inspection with the West Hollywood Building & Safety Division at 323.984.7321 after preliminary approval by the CALGreen Building Inspector is confirmed. Prepare all required submittals and a signed Green Building Checklist (GB-1 NonRes or GB-2 NonRes) in accordance with the Nonresidential Green Building Inspection Guidelines. Ensure the required Nonresidential CALGreen Certificate of Compliance form and all supporting documentation are completed. CALGreen Building Inspectors must have their Nonresidential Green Building Inspector Field Notes ready for review by the City Building Inspector at the time of Green Building Final Inspection.
