2015 Winter Sounds
January 10 to March 7, 2015
Winter Sounds is a FREE indoor concert series of Jazz, Classical and World music presented by the City of West Hollywood through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission. All concerts are free to attend, seating is provided and RSVPs are not required. To hear music samples click on the links. For parking and transit info scroll to the bottom of the page. 

The Jennifer Leitham Trio

Jennifer Leitham has been a professional musician for over 40 years having begun her career as John Leitham. She is known for playing for some of the best ever, among them Mel Torme, Peggy Lee, George Shearing, Woody Herman, Benny Carter, Louis Bellson, Doc Severinsen, k.d. lang, and a horde of others. Her basslines have graced many movies and TV shows, and most recently she was the subject of an award winning documentary, “I Stand Corrected”, winner of 10 best film awards, including Outfest in 2012. Her show will be a melange of original music and arrangements of the Great American Songbook, all delivered with a virtuosity, deep emotion, and humor.

The John Proulx Quartet

John Proulx, a Grammy-winning composer, presents a program of jazz and standards with John playing piano, singing and swinging.  From obscure gems to familiar favorites, John is a prolific recording artist and a recognized master of the genre who has composed songs for legendary jazz artists Nancy Wilson, Deana Martin, Mary Stallings, and Greg Walker.

Daniel Jimenez Afanador
Latin, Alternative Rock/Pop

Daniel Jimenez Afanador, originally from Colombia, mixes the musical influences of his native country with American Alternative Rock to create songs in both Spanish and English that are both intimate and intense. He has performed at venues nationwide and in 2013 won first place at the San Diego County Fair Cantautor Latino contest for best singer/songwriter. In 2014 New Music Charts Magazine called Daniel a "remarkable singer and songwriter" and his song "All the Same" "beautifully executed and exceptionally arranged."

Southwest Chamber Music

Re-imagining Folk - tenor Jon Lee Keenan and harpist Alison Bjorkedal explore the voice and harp works of English composer Benjamin Britten. The program will include the colorful Eight Folk Song Suite, with simple melodies re-imagined with modern flair and the Birthday Hansel, Britten's gift to the Queen Mother with poetry by Robert Burns to honor her Scottish roots.

Alison Lewis Quintet

Alison Lewis and her dynamic jazz quartet will re-imagine and recharge works by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Sting, Cole Porter, Rogers and Hammerstein, Herbie Hancock, and the Beatles, as well as present several original numbers.  Ms. Lewis has been described by Cabaret Scenes as, “a singer with a hauntingly beautiful voice who transformed the ordinary into the extraordinary with brilliant arrangements and vocal experimentation.” This performance promises to take the audience on a most uplifting and unforgettable adventure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX-Mx8wHNow
