Under the 1964 Civil Rights Act, discrimination in housing is against the law. The law covers not only the purchase or rental of housing, but discrimination in lending practices, insurance protection for the home, and even advertising practices which involve housing for both sale or rent.
If you feel that you have been discriminated against due to your religion, race, marital status, color or for any other reason, contact the Fair Housing Council in your area for further information. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development provides listings of fair housing councils throughout California. You may address any question that involves housing discrimination to the council nearest you.
