Home MenuFrequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I obtain a residential parking permit and what do I need to bring?
A: Parking permits are available at the Permit Parking Office located on the 1st Floor of City Hall 8300 Santa Monica Blvd. You may reach the Permit Parking Office at (323) 848-6392 or the 24hr Parking Permit Information Line at (323) 848-6578. In order to obtain a permit, you must live within the boundaries of a permit parking district and provide proof of residency (such as a lease, property tax bill or utility bill) with a current driver's license and vehicle registration information.
Q: I'm moving soon. How do I get those "no parking" signs for my moving truck?
A: Temporary No Parking signs are available via online application at Parking Moving Permits | City of West Hollywood (weho.org). Permits must be applied for at least 5 business days prior to the move. Approved applications for Temporary No Parking signs reserve portions of the public curb space for convenient moving truck parking. Generally, reservations are for one day and between the hours of 8am and 5pm. For more information email PermitParking@weho.org.
Q: Do I need a permit for a garage/yard sale?
A: Yes. The City requires that all those conducting garage sales must first get a Garage Sale Permit. Garage Sale Permits are issued at no cost. The permit application itself is only one page (the backside contains all the "do's and dont's" you need to know) and anyone with a valid California Driver's License or California Identification Card showing the West Hollywood address where they live and where the garage sale will take place can get one. Just visit the Planning Counter on the 2nd Floor of City Hall 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard to speak with staff about obtaining your permit.
Q: Do I need to come to City Hall to get a one-day guest pass (and is there a limit)?
A: Yes. During normal business hours, you can pick up one day permits by visiting the Permit Parking Counter on the 1st Floor of City Hall 8300 Santa Monica Boulveard. The limit is 50 and you must show proof of an address in a permit parking district. Visitor parking permits can be issued up to 10 days in advance. Visitor permits are valid from the day of your event until 12 noon on the following day. When City Hall is closed, the permits can be picked up at the Sheriff's Station located at 780 N. San Vicente Boulevard or at the Kings Road Parking Structure located at 8383 Santa Monica Boulevard at Kings Road.
Q: Who do I talk to about landlord/tenant issues and can I come in to City Hall to see them?
A: Tenants and landlords may contact the Rent Stabilization Division and speak to a Counselor about issues involving rent controlled units or about the eviction code which covers all residential rental units in the City whether they are rent-stabilized or not. Questions about civil code matters or code enforcement will be referred to the appropriate agencies. Constituents can call and leave a message at (323) 848-6450 and a Rent Counselor will call them back. Or they can come into the office and speak to a Counselor at the RSHD counter located on the 1st Floor of City Hall 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard. The Counter is open Monday to Wednesday, 8am to 5pm; Thursday, 9:30am to 5pm; and every other Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Q: How do I dispose of large trash items (mattress, refrigerator, etc.)?
A: A large item will be picked up at no cost to you. Call Athens Services at (888)336-6100 to schedule a pick up or use our Service Request system. Once an order is placed, the item will be picked up on your regular trash collection day. Items should be placed at the curb the night before pickup. If you have more than one or two items to dispose of, you can either self haul the items to the closest landfill, Southern California Transfer Company, 1908 Frank St, Santa Monica, CA 310-828-6444 or call Athens Services to arrange for a special pick up (there is a charge for this service). For more information call Environmental Services at 323-848-6404.
Q: Who do I call if no one picked up my trash?
A: If your trash was not picked up on the day scheduled, please contact Athens Services at (888) 336-6100 or Environmental Services at (323) 848-6404. Either one will be able to help you.
Q: How do I obtain a business license?
A: A Business License Officer (323) 848-6475 should be contacted with questions related to licensing since there are more exceptions than standards when it comes to regulatory licenses.
Q: When is the next City Council meeting?
A: With a few holiday exceptions, the West Hollywood City Council generally meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month. All Council meetings are listed on our City Calendar.
