The City of West Hollywood is starting a new community engagement process to envision the future of Plummer Park.

PROJECT INFORMATION

General ideas under consideration as part of Plummer Park improvements include:

  • Improving the park in innovative and creative ways;
  • Unifying the park to create a sense of cohesiveness;
  • Establishing clear sight lines for a safer park experience;
  • Providing more opportunities for various ways to enjoy the park, including quiet areas for reading and reflection;
  • Honoring Plummer Park’s history and existing memorials;
  • Ensuring the park has adequate shade cover;
  • Providing opportunities for safe play of young children; and
  • Implementing an area for older children and teens

This adds to previously identified concepts for consideration, which include:

  • Enhancing existing green space in the center of Plummer Park;
  • Creating additional green space throughout the park;
  • Creating a central park promenade;
  • Establishing a quiet formal garden;
  • Building an interactive water feature;
  • Updating and adding new play equipment; and
  • Updating and upgrading Fiesta Hall.

PROJECT STATUS

The Plummer Park visioning process will be relaunched as a facilitated, community-based effort in early 2025. In preparation of this outreach, the City Council Plummer Park Subcommittee met to discuss components of the revisioning and areas where some work can begin earlier in conjunction with a longer-term vision. The Council has provided direction and approximately $4 million dollar cumulatively to begin the work to implement the permanent dog park along Vista Street, bring in a new prefabricated Pro Shop, move forward with “interim” community garden locations, and begin the essential preservation work on Fiesta Hall and Great Hall/Long Hall. This preservation work will consist of, but is not limited to, roof replacements, mechanical system upgrades and other preservation work that is needed to maintain the assets until the full Plummer Park Comprehensive Plan can be implemented.

UPCOMING EVENTS

None at this time. Please stay tuned for additional opportunities for engagement.

  2. Discussion on the visioning and programming for the future of Plummer Park.
    1. Discussion on installing three (3) temporary signage kiosks at Plummer Park to share information about the visioning project and public meetings. Action is to proceed with locations at Fuller Ave, Community Center entrance, and near Tennis Courts at northside of park.
    2. Discussion on the Plummer Park Comprehensive Plan RFP. 3. Discussion on the structure of a Plummer Park Working Group. Action is to move forward with a City Manager appointed Working Group which will be comprised of 13 members. Interested community members, including City Advisory Board/Commission members, may apply when the Open Call for Working Group Members is posted. The anticipated release for the Open Call is June/July 2024. Additionally, City Advisory Board/Commission members may opt to appoint a liaison to attend Working Group meetings (as a non-Working Group member).

Agenda

The Plummer Park Ad-Hoc Subcommittee met on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Plummer Park Community Center, Rooms 5 & 6 at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. The purpose of this in-person meeting was to discuss topics including updates to the dog park and pro shop, interim community garden location candidates, preservation and programming of the Long Hall/ Great Hall and Fiesta Hall, informational signage kiosks, and options for future park programming and visioning.

Agenda

On November 15, 2022 the city held an initial "Open House" to kick off the new process. Staff provided background information to attendees about the park’s history and current uses, and engaged in conversation with various community members about the future of the park. The Open House was the first of many conversations that the City will be hosting in late 2022 and early 2023 to better inform future planning efforts, which will include both near-term upgrades and long-term improvements.
