TREES ARE IMPORTANT TO THE WEST HOLLYWOOD COMMUNITY

The City of West Hollywood's Heritage Tree Program encourages property owners to voluntarily participate for the primary purpose of maximizing their ecosystem services and for the secondary purpose of representing excellent specimens that are worthy of community admiration.

Trees are unique living resources that provide shade, assistance in keeping the air clean of pollutants, resting places for wildlife, and natural beauty. It is the City's intent to provide reasonable assurance that West Hollywood’s trees and tree heritage will be safeguarded for future generations. The Heritage Tree Program focuses on the identification of specimen trees, promotes tree awareness, advocates for the protection of mature tree benefits, and educates community members about the City's heritage trees and proper maintenance practices.

This Program is not intended to be a means to obstruct or stop the development of private or public property nor will heritage tree status be a factor in preventing property development on or near a tree’s location.

Nominations for heritage tree designation may be made by any resident, property owner or business owner of West Hollywood. Heritage trees may be located on public property and private property.
