After two decades of storm drain construction by the County of Los Angeles, and then 10 months of bureaucratic process with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the City finally received the long awaited Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) [PDF] from FEMA.
The changes mean that there are no longer any parcels in the City of West Hollywood which must carry mandatory flood insurance. Up until now, there were about 400 properties in the southwest portion of the City which were required by their mortgage lenders to carry flood insurance. With this mapping change by FEMA, flood insurance is no longer mandatory, but optional.
The City of West Hollywood urges you to contact your mortgage company and insurance company to determine if you will be eligible to lower your insurance premium. You may download a copy of a letter [PDF] that you can provide to your mortgage carrier.
