The General Accounting division serves both our internal and external customers with the highest degree of reliability and timeliness, providing quality financial services while adhering to established City policies and procedures and protecting the City's assets.
General Accounting is responsible for maintaining the City's general ledger, and recording and reporting all financial transactions. General Accounting manages the month and year-end closing functions, and provides support to staff in conducting financial transactions. General Accounting includes accounts payable, long-term debt, cash management, bank reconciliations and investment management of the City's portfolio. It also ensures compliance with internal controls, the City's financial policies and the budget. The division maintains the City's financial records; annually performs the fixed asset inventory to ensure integrity and accuracy; and prepares various financial reports for state and federal agencies. General Accounting develops projections of the City's overhead costs and allocations, debt service payments, interest earnings, and reimbursements for capital projects funded by long-term debt.
