Numerous Neighborhood Celebrations to Make Strong Statements Against Crime at National Night Out

National Night OutNearly 2,000 West Hollywood residents are expected to celebrate in the streets in a show of unity against crime during the City of West Hollywood’s annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2, 2011. The City’s Neighborhood Watch groups, in coordination with L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and L.A. County Fire Department as well as Public Safety and Recreation Services and Special Events Divisions, will hold evening events and social gatherings in neighborhoods throughout West Hollywood. Neighborhood events will include block parties, barbecues, entertainment and dancing. The events will feature live music and activities for children.

National Night Out is a great opportunity for neighbors, public safety personnel and city staff to come together,” said West Hollywood Mayor John J. Duran. “It is an event that fits perfectly in West Hollywood as it strives to make our city safer and more livable” added Mayor Duran.

Street closures for National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and include:

  • The cul-de-sac at Sherbourne Drive and Ashcroft Avenue, with closures at San Vicente Boulevard and Ashcroft Avenue, and Ashcroft Avenue at Sherbourne Drive;
  • Lloyd Place extending east from Elevado Street to Norma Place;
  • Rugby Drive from Westmount up to and including the driveway of 8617 Rugby;
  • Lexington Avenue between Formosa and Detroit;
  • Westmount cul-de-sac starting at the barricade just north of Santa Monica Blvd. up to 940 Westmount, south of the Westmount/West Knoll traffic circle;
  • Vista Street from Lexington Avenue south to the alley just north of Santa Monica Boulevard.

National Night Out is a national campaign which involves citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 36 million people participated in National Night Out 2010.
