Repository of Wonders Exhibit on Display, November 1 through 5
Repository of Wonders, an exhibition of “selected objects from sundry lands, realms and eras,” by artist Susan Malmstrom, is currently on display through Saturday, November 5, 2016 in the West Hollywood Room of the West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, is presented by the West Hollywood Library and the City of West Hollywood’s WeHo Arts.

West Hollywood City Hall Lighting Ceremony Commemorates Transgender Awareness Month, November 1
There will be a short ceremony to light West Hollywood City Hall in the colors of the Transgender Flag. The event will take place on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 5 p.m. at West Hollywood City Hall, located at 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard.
Members of the City of West Hollywood’s Transgender Advisory Board will raise the transgender flag; then, at dusk, West Hollywood City Hall will be lit aglow in blue, pink, and white lights in observance of Transgender Awareness Month. A dessert reception will follow in the lobby of City Hall. Special lighting will continue through the end of November.

Outfest West Hollywood Series: We’ve Been Around, November 1
In honor of Transgender Awareness Month, the City of West Hollywood’s WeHo Arts and the Outfest West Hollywood Series will present We’ve Been Around, a series of empowering short documentaries, followed by a panel discussion, on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., in West Hollywood’s City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
Created by Rhys Ernst, co-producer of the Amazon hit show Transparent, and produced by Christine Beebe, We’ve Been Around features the stories of trans trailblazers Lucy Hicks Anderson, Albert, Little Axe, Lou Sullivan, and groups such as the Street Transvestites Action Revolutionaries (S.T.A.R.) and Camp Trans. The panel discussion will feature Ernst, Beebe, and other members of the We’ve Been Around team.
Tickets are $10 for general admission, or $6 for Outfest members.

Women and Books will Discuss I Shall Be Near To You, November 1
Women and Books is a book club that meets monthly to discuss books written by women authors. This month’s discussion is the book I Shall Be Near To You by Erin Lindsay McCabe.
This month’s Women and Books discussion will take place on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Admission is free.

Manny Pacheco Presents Forgotten Hollywood, November 2
Television and radio personality Manny Pacheco, author of Forgotten Hollywood, Forgotten History, presents the story of Forgotten Hollywood in a Ken Burns-style presentation that includes archival footage from actors of Hollywood’s Golden Age on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 4 p.m. in the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
The presentation will include the trailer for the upcoming Forgotten Hollywood documentary, and will be followed by a book signing.

Cal Arts WHAP! Lecture Series Presents The Limits of Homophily, or Why Network Analysis Needs Critical Ethnic Studies, November 4
The Cal Arts West Hollywood Aesthetics and Politics (WHAP!) lecture series, which is supported by the City of West Hollywood through WeHo Arts, examines The Limits of Homophily, or Why Network Analysis Needs Critical Ethnic Studies on Friday, November 4, 2016 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
This lecture by Wendy Hui Kyong Chun, Professor of Modern Culture and Media at Brown University, argues that the Internet creates “echo chambers” and that we seem trapped in ever smaller pigeon holes; therefore, we need to use critical concepts from the humanities to create more public and just online networks.

SASSAS soundSpark Music Series for Young Children will Feature Brandon Mayer, November 5
soundSpark is a monthly music series for young children featuring solo and duo performances by emerging artists. This month’s soundSpark performer is Brandon Mayer.
The performance will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 12 p.m. at the West Hollywood Library Children’s Theatre, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
soundSpark is made possible through a grant from the City of West Hollywood through WeHo Arts and is organized by SASSAS (The Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound).

Express Yourself — Vote! November 8 is Election Day!
The General Election will take place on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, and the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents can find their polling place by visiting www.lavote.net/locator.
The City will provide transportation to any resident needing a ride to the polls on Election Day. West Hollywood Dial-A-Ride will provide free direct transportation on Election Day between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents may request a ride by calling, toll-free, (800) 447-2189 at any time before 1 p.m. on Election Day to reserve a trip.
CityLine, the City of West Hollywood’s free local shuttle, has stops adjacent to all of the City’s polling places, with shuttles running at 30-minute intervals from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, including a route map and bus tracker, as well as a list of stops by polling place, please visit www.weho.org/cityline. Riders can also text “wehocl” to 41411 to obtain route and bus arrival time information.
Vote By Mailvoters can easily and securely drop off their general election VBM ballots at West Hollywood City Hall; the last day to drop off VBM ballots is Monday, November 7, 2016.

Transgender Advisory Board Community Awards, November 9
The City of West Hollywood’s Transgender Advisory Board will host its annual Community Awards on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood’s City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
The awards acknowledge community members and organizations for their work in the transgender community. A dessert reception will follow the meeting. The event will be televised on WeHoTV. The event is free and open to the public.

Cal Arts WHAP! Lecture Series Presents Epistemology Noir, November 10
The Cal Arts West Hollywood Aesthetics and Politics (WHAP!) lecture series, which is supported by the City of West Hollywood through WeHo Arts, presents Epistemology Noir on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
In this lecture, Robin Mackay, director of Urbanomic and editor of its journal, Collapse, who is also an Associate Research Fellow at Goldsmiths University of London examines the plot-drien detective novel and political thriller genres, and how these epistemological dramas are adapted to television and movies.

City of West Hollywood Veterans Day Program, November 11
The City of West Hollywood invites community members to join City officials, staff members, and representatives from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station and the Los Angeles County Fire Department in honoring our local veterans at a special Veterans Day Program on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the City of West Hollywood’s City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
Prior to the program, there will be a brief presentation of wreaths at 10 a.m. at the Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial, located on the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Holloway Drive. A free shuttle will take guests at 10:30 a.m. to the Program.
The Veterans Day Program, “Honoring and Supporting Veterans,” will recognize those who have served in the United States Armed Forces with a speakers and brief speeches by members of the West Hollywood City Council. There will be representatives from local veterans’ organizations and the UCLA ROTC Air Force Color Guard. In recognition of the important role that animals play in helping to support our troops and our veterans, there will also be a representative from the organization Animals for Armed Forces and a screening of the short video Dear Captain, K9s For Warriors.

Live, Love, Thrive Women’s Empowerment Conference, November 12
The Live, Love, Thrive Women’s Empowerment Conference, presented by 360 Karma Women and co-sponsored by the City of West Hollywood through its Women’s Advisory Board and Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board, will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the City of West Hollywood’s City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
The conference will feature world-renowned speakers, topics such as “Find Your Life’s Purpose,” “Understand How to Find, Fund, Market and Manifest Your Legacy,” and “Inspiring Your Own Book and TED Talk,” plus the launch and first public premiere of the “Live, Love, Thrive Web Series,” showcasing women who are doing inspiring and influential work in the world.
In addition to a day of informative sessions, 360 Karma Women will present awards honoring philanthropist, celebrity, and entrepreneur Lisa Vanderpump, and Grammy Award-winning producer Nicole Ehrlich. After the conference, there will be an after-party at PUMP from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Tickets are $45 in advance and $60 at the door, and include the all-day program, lunch buffet, onsite parking, and admission to the PUMP after-party with complimentary appetizers.

WeHo Pedals Bike Share Basics Class, November 13
The City of West Hollywood will host a WeHo Pedals Bike Share education class on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the WeHo Pedals Bike Share Hub located at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard, Holloway Drive and N. Olive Drive.
The class will offer a hands-on experience that aims to educate and encourage community members to use the WeHo Pedals system as informed, safe, and lawful cyclists. Two instructors, designated by Sustainable Streets, will lead the class in practicing safe riding skills and learning how to use all of the features of a WeHo Pedals bike share bicycle. Participants will also learn West Hollywood’s local bicycle laws. Participation in the class is free and space is limited to 15 participants — unfortunately, walk-up participants cannot be accommodated without advance reservations. All participants will receive a free helmet.

Transgender Film Festival, November 13
The City of West Hollywood, through its Transgender Advisory Board, will host a Transgender Film Festival on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 1 p.m., at the City of West Hollywood’s City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
This year’s event features two documentaries: Raising Zoey, which chronicles 13-year-old Zoey Luna’s fight for her right to self-identify in school despite being bullied and teased by students and officials; and Shunned, an award-winning and thought-provoking film about the trauma and struggles faced by a group of trans women in the Philippines as they compete in a pageant. This event is free and open to the public.

90th Anniversary of Route 66 Celebration, November 13
The City of West Hollywood invites the community to get their kicks… on Route 66, at a celebration commemorating the 90th anniversary of America’s most famous highway. In West Hollywood, Route 66 follows Santa Monica Boulevard, and the City is proud to be a part of the its amazing history!
The Route 66 celebration will take place on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Santa Monica Boulevard and Holloway Drive. Barney’s Beanery, which was established in 1920 and became a classic Route 66 juke joint, will serve chili and there will be lots of classic soda pop to go ’round. On Holloway, there will be a display of classic 1960s Ford Mustangs from the car club ClassicStangs, and there will be live music by Murphy’s Flaw, whose “Eclectigrass” mix of bluegrass, jazz, and country will get toes tapping, hands clapping, and feet dancing. There will be “West Hollywood Route 66” giveaways! The event is free and open to the public.

Get on Board! Forum on Getting Around Town Car-Free, November 16
The City of West Hollywood, L.A. County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, and the West Hollywood Comprehensive Services Center will host Get on Board!, a workshop about getting around town car-free. It will take place on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood’s City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
Participants will learn about a variety of transportation options, tips for first-time riders, how to ride public transit safely and easily, and services available to those who need assistance. Presentations will focus on seniors and people with disabilities, but everyone is welcome to join.

Panel Discussion Regarding the Criminalization of HIV, November 16
The City of West Hollywood will host a panel discussion on laws that criminalize people living with HIV, including the origins of the laws, studies on antiretroviral therapy and its effects on reducing transmission, other risk reduction measures, and the effect of HIV criminalization on the community.
The discussion will take place on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood’s City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
The panel will be comprised of members of Californians for HIV Criminalization Reform (CHCR), a coalition of organizations and individuals dedicated to replacing fear-based laws with evidence-based, nondiscriminatory laws. The discussion is free and open to the public.

“Time Presses” Wednesday-Night Recreation/Social Club, November 16
The City of West Hollywood and its Russian Advisory Board, each month, host the Recreation Club “Time Presses” — a Wednesday-Night Social Club. This month’s event will take place on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, in Great Hall.
The evening will feature karaoke singing, movies, potluck food, and an opportunity to communicate in Russian and English languages. Admission is free.

West Hollywood’s Gay Men’s Discussion Group “TRIBE,” November 16
The City of West Hollywood’s Gay Men’s Discussion Group, TRIBE, will take place on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
TRIBE meets on the third Wednesday of every month. TRIBE discussions are open to the public and attendees are encouraged to discuss their own experiences about issues of importance to the gay male community. Admission is free. Transgender Day of Remembrance Ceremony, November 20
The City of West Hollywood’s Transgender Advisory Board will host a Transgender Day of Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. in the West Hollywood Library Auto Court, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
The event will include speakers from the community, City representatives, and transgender performers. The names of transgender people who have passed due to hate crimes will be read aloud at the ceremony. The flag flown at City Hall will be flown at half-staff in remembrance. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

Residents and visitors in the City of West Hollywood are encouraged to Shop Small on Small Business Saturday! Small Business Saturday is the day we celebrate the Shop Small movement to help connect shoppers to local merchants throughout West Hollywood. This annual event has grown since 2010 and occurs each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving Day.
