The City of West Hollywood, through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission, continues 2015 Winter Sounds, a series of free indoor concerts of jazz, world, classical, and other music from January 2015 through March 2015. All concerts are free to attend, seating is provided, and RSVPs are not required. To hear music samples, please visit www.weho.org/arts.
On Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 4 p.m. there will be a concert held with Southwest Chamber Music at the City’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Free validated parking is available in the five-story parking structure, accessible from El Tovar Place. In this concert, entitled “Re-imagining Folk,” tenor Jon Lee Keenan and harpist Alison Bjorkedal will explore the voice and harp works of English composer Benjamin Britten. The program will include the colorful Eight Folk Song Suite, with simple melodies re-imagined with modern flair and the Birthday Hansel, Britten’s gift to the Queen Mother with poetry by Robert Burns to honor her Scottish roots.
On Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 4 p.m. “Exploring American Music” will take place in Fiesta Hall at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. Free parking is available in both parking lots at Plummer Park. Gregg Young & the 2nd Street Band will take the audience on a journey through time, space, and a trans-global musical transformation with their award-winning explosion of Jazz, R&B, Rock 'n' Roll, Caribbean Steel Drum, Reggae, Latin Jazz/Rock, Pop, and Funk.
On Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 4 p.m., the Alison Lewis Quintet will perform a concert at the City’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Free validated parking is available in the five-story parking structure, accessible from El Tovar Place. The Quintet will reimagine and recharge works by Stevie Wonder, Sting, Cole Porter, and The Beatles, along with several original numbers, as well.
