The City of West Hollywood is Encouraging Residents to Give Back on #GivingTuesday December 3

Post Date:November 27, 2013

The City of West Hollywood has proclaimed December 3, 2013 to be #GivingTuesday and is encouraging residents to participate in the campaign created to promote charitable giving on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. #GivingTuesday is a movement to celebrate and provide incentives to give by bringing together the collective power of charities, families, businesses and individuals to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.

“The holidays are a time to reflect on what we are thankful for, and #GivingTuesday reminds us that the spirit of the holidays is about community,” said West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land. “The need for charitable donations remains very high. Whether you are passionate about your local community or those in need in other parts of the world, #GivingTuesday is a great opportunity to give back. I encourage everyone to set aside a little from their holiday budget to give back to a cause they care about.”

Coinciding with the Thanksgiving Holiday and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday will inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national movement around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are synonymous with holiday shopping.

#GivingTuesday was founded in 2012 by 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation after a group of friends and partners came together to find ways to promote and celebrate the tradition of giving. Since then, new organizations and more than 7,000 partners across the country have joined the movement, providing creative ways people can embrace #GivingTuesday and collaborate in their giving efforts to create more meaningful results.
