Construction Advisory: Sewer Cleaning & Inspection Project

Post Date:December 03, 2012
Location: Melrose Ave, Robertson Ave, and Beverly Blvd (in the City of West Hollywood city limits)
Dates: 12/5/12 to 12/21/12, Monday-Friday only
Construction Inspector: Mirko Maher 925-212-3757

constructionOver the next couple of weeks, the City’s contractor PROPIPE will be cleaning and inspecting the sewer lines on Robertson Blvd, Melrose Ave, and Beverly Blvd, within the City of West Hollywood city limits. The project consists of the contractor using cleaning tools in the sewer pipes and then they send in a CCTV camera to do a video inspection of each sewer line. They are looking for cracks in the pipes, the overall condition of the pipes that were built in the 1920s and 1950s, as well as other damage that may be present. All work is done by accessing the sewer lines from manholes in the street. There should be no interruption to sewer service while the work is being done.

Expect to see intermittent traffic control set up around the work trucks stationed at the sewer manholes. The contractor will maintain at least one travel lane for vehicles in each direction. The crew will be working at any given manhole for about 2-3 hours at a time, and then they move on to the next manhole. Their work hours are Monday –Friday from 6:00 am– 5:00 pm and the work should be completed by Friday, December 21, 2012. A special extended-hours work permit has been approved for the 6:00 am start time, to take advantage of the hours when businesses along the Avenues haven’t opened yet.

The City has hired an inspector to oversee the contractor’s work in the field. While the contractor is working, our inspector Mirko Maher, is available on his field cell phone at 925-212-3757. If there is a problem please bring it to our inspector’s attention so that he can have the contractor correct it in a timely manner. The City has used PROPIPE before. On past projects we found that this contractor works rather quickly and is respectful of the businesses around their work areas.

Donn Uyeno of the City’s Engineering Division will be handling the day to day management of project for the City. If you have further questions you can contact him at (323) 848-6457 during regular business hours or email him at duyeno@weho.org
