The City of West Hollywood is offering free Community Emergency Response Team training beginning Saturday, March 31, 2012. Classes run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be held at Plummer Park, Rooms 5 & 6, 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. Class topics will include disaster preparedness, disaster fire suppression and terrorism. The County of Los Angeles Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training was developed by FEMA to provide basic fire safety and life-saving skills.
Classes will continue on Saturday, April 7, 2012 and Saturday, April 14, 2012. Topics in these classes will include disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, and team organization.
Following a major disaster, police, fire and medical professionals may not be able to meet the demand for emergency medical attention. Residents and neighbors may need to rely upon one another to help with immediate life-saving needs, particularly in isolated neighborhoods that may be cut off from the main roads.
There is no charge for the CERT classes, but attendance at all three sessions are required to receive certification. For more information, please call (323) 848-6580 or go to www.fire.lacounty.gov/cert For the deaf and hard of hearing, please call (323) 848-6496.
