City of West Hollywood to Observe ‘Bi+ Visibility Week’ September 16 through 23

Bi+ Visibility Week 2024The City of West Hollywood will celebrate Bi+ Visibility Week from Monday, September 16, 2024 through Monday, September 23, 2024. The City’s recognitions during this week are intended to raise the visibility, support, and increase awareness of the Bisexual+ community. These recognitions include:

Street Lanterns: On Monday, September 16, 2024, the City’s lanterns over Santa Monica Boulevard will be lit in pink, purple, and blue, which are the colors of the Bisexual+ Pride flag, in homage to the community. West Hollywood City Hall, located at 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard, will also be lit with the same colors.

Pride Flags: Bisexual+ Pride flags will be flown on the City’s medians where flags are currently displayed. Additionally, Bisexual+ Pride flags will be displayed on the rooftop of City Hall, and at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard.

Bi+ Visibility Week Celebration: On Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the City invites the bisexual+ community and allies, to a free outdoor celebration at Plummer Park’s Vista Lawn, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and picnic items to enjoy a lively afternoon at the park. The event will feature a music set from DJ Michael Ian, a Drag Queen performance from Acacia Forgot, free lawn games for use, plus free Yoga and Zumba classes hosted by The Phoenix (bring your own water bottle and yoga mats!) In addition to entertainment, community partners will be on hand to provide important resources and services. AmBi, LA Bi+ Task Force, Stacked Deck Press, and The Translatin@ Coalition will have informational booths, while STICKITIN and the LA County Public Health Department will be offering free flu and Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) vaccines on-site.

Since incorporation in 1984, the City of West Hollywood has become one of the most influential cities in the nation for its outspoken advocacy on LGBTQ issues. No other city of its size has had a greater impact on the national public policy discourse on fairness and inclusiveness for LGBTQ people. More than 40 percent of residents in West Hollywood identify as LGBTQ and three of the five members of the West Hollywood City Council are openly gay or lesbian. The City has advocated for more than three decades for measures to support LGBTQ individuals and has been in the vanguard on efforts to gain and protect equality for all people on a state, national, and international level.
