Red Circle Project “Celebrating All Life & Creation” Pow Wow

The Red Circle Project at AIDS Project Los Angeles hosts the 6th Annual “Celebrating All Life & Creation” Pow Wow. With the support of the City of West Hollywood and the Transgender Advisory Board, the Pow Wow aims to change the face of HIV/AIDS by bringing together community members from diverse backgrounds to engage and learn from each other.

Everything about a pow wow is traditional. The selection of songs performed, the head staff, and especially the head man and head woman dancer, come from a long line of traditions. Each and every person’s presence adds to the power of the healing process. The gathering of so many diverse individuals in one place and sharing energy adds to the process.

Attendees will have an opportunity to receive free HIV testing and STI screening on site, which will be provided by the John Wesley Community Health mobile testing unit. There will also be local organizations and nonprofits providing HIV/AIDS education and outreach to aid in healthy community awareness.

Although RCP provides services specifically to Native American/Alaska Native LGBT individuals, the organization comes into contact with broad communities of different ethnicities and is given the opportunity to educate on HIV as well as culture. The presence of a diverse community at the Pow Wow enhances the experience of all those in attendance.
