Community based facilitated monthly discussion group for gay men. The purpose of TRIBE WeHo Gay Men’s Discussion Group is to foster internalized dignity in gay men. We do this through the exploration of our shared challenges and opportunities using face to face discussions. www.weho.org/tribe
November’s topic:
Family
(Wednesday, November 16, 2016 7:30 pm)
Just in time for the holidays, we’ll explore what family means to you as a gay man and to us as a community. Our relationships with our bio families are getting better, but they are often still strained or even hostile. Our chosen families are complex, diverse, complicated, often undefined and unacknowledged. We’ll discuss how you identify your family, invest in what adds to your dignity, and explore strategies for transforming what doesn’t work.
Potential Talking Points:
- What is the definition of family to you?
- Do you have to be married and/or have children to be a family?
- Who will be at your funeral? Your wedding? Your Open House?
- How does family (as you define it) enrich your life?
- What are the cultural differences in gay and non-gay definitions of family?
- Do you feel comfortable attending holiday celebrations with your bio-family as an open gay man?
- Do you have a will? Who do you wat to get your stuff?
- Who do you call when you are sick or in trouble?
- Is blood thicker than friendship?
Admission is free.
No RSVP required.
