Another year, another slate of all-male directors nominated for Academy Awards. As an antidote to this persistent issue, we've assembled a group of talented female directors who work in film and television to talk about the art and craft of directing. These women are turning stereotypes, genre and the industry on its head. Come hear about their latest projects and stories from the forefront of the movement to bring diversity to Hollywood.
The panel features Lake Bell (In A World, Children's Hospital); Nisha Ganatra (Chutney Popcorn, Shameless); Jennifer Phang (Advantageous; and will be moderated by producer Effie Brown (Dear White People, Project Greenlight).
The Women In Film Speaker Series features filmmakers and industry leaders across many areas of entertainment who share valuable professional insights into the art and craft of film, television, and media-making. Past events have included experts in production, entertainment law, pitching, digital funding and crowdsourcing, screenwriting, and many more. Women In Film is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting equal opportunities for women, encouraging creative projects by women, and expanding and enhancing portrayals of women in all forms of global media.
The Women in Film Speaker Series is generally held monthly on the 4th Monday of the month. It is co-sponsored by the West Hollywood Women's Advisory Board.
