The legendary actress, writer, political activist, fitness guru and former fashion model Jane Fonda will help kick-off One Billion Rising and the 15th Anniversary of V-Day on Thursday, February 14, 2013 starting at 10 a.m. at the Sal Guarriello Memorial Park in West Hollywood (intersection of Holloway Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard). As a part of One Billion Rising, dancers from Flash Mob America will perform a special One Billion Rising performance choreographed by the iconic dancer, actress and choreographer Debbie Allen. In addition to the legendary Jane Fonda, who is a V-Day Board Member, speakers at the City of West Hollywood’s One Billion Rising event will include West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tempore Abbe Land; and Lindsey Horvath, Outreach Coordinator for V-Day/One Billion Rising and others.
V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery. One Billion Rising is a single-day global action, consisting primarily of dance strikes, which will occur on Tuesday, February 14, 2013. Every 2013 V-Day event will promote One Billion Rising.
Jane Fonda is an American actress, writer, political activist, former fashion model, and fitness guru. She has won two Academy Awards, an Emmy Award and received several other movie awards and nominations during more than 50 years as an actress. After 15 years of retirement, she returned to film in 2005 with Monster-in-Law, followed by Georgia Rule two years later. She also produced and starred in over 20 exercise videos released between 1982 and 1995, and once again in 2010.

MENding Monologues will take place on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 8 p.m. in the West Hollywood City Council Chambers. Inspired by Eve Ensler’s play, The Vagina Monologues, this 90-minute show explores gender violence issues from a male perspective and empowers men and women to become advocates for global change. Using first-person monologues and hard-hitting slam poetry, MENding Monologues will encourage audience members to make tangible changes. The performance will be followed by a next-day Writing Workshop on Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the West Hollywood Park Auditorium. The Writing Workshop will be conducted by MENding Monologues actors.
