World AIDS Day Commemoration

You are invited to a special event to commemorate World AIDS Day on Sunday, December 1st at the West Hollywood Recreation and Aquatic Center.

The event will begin at 2:00 p.m. It will feature a panel discussion about how living, caregiving and advocacy in the City of West Hollywood during the height of the AIDS epidemic helped those with HIV/AIDS feel a sense of community, and how that community has changed over the years. The event will include audience storytelling and Q&A

The Foundation for the AIDS Monument is the organizer of the World AIDS Day Commemoration, which is co-sponsored by the City of West Hollywood.

Following this event, audience members are encouraged to descend the Grand Staircase at the Recreation and Aquatic Center to view the exhibition presented by The Lavender Effect, called “Young City at War: Stories from West Hollywood During the AIDS Epidemic, 1984-2024.”  That exhibition will tell the dramatic and poignant story of West Hollywood’s response from the early days of the HIV/AIDS epidemic to the present using photography and audio narration from interviews with individuals who played a key role in the “war.”
