ACT UP LA ANNIVERSARY AND TRIBUTE EVENT

The AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) Los Angeles Oral History Project is gathering on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Plummer Park’s Historic Great Hall/Long Hall to celebrate the amazing accomplishments achieved when a group of passionate, fearless, unrelenting, and brilliant activists came together for a single purpose, TO SAVE LIVES. The event will commemorate the lives and work of ACT UP LA Activists Mary Lucey and Nancy MacNeil, as well as pay tribute to others who were lost in the battle against AIDS.

ACT UP a diverse, nonpartisan group of individuals, united in anger, and committed to direct action to end the AIDS crisis. In December 1987, ACT UP LA became one of the first chapters established in the world. Regularly meeting at Plummer Park in West Hollywood, ACT UP LA stood out amongst other chapters for their focus on compassionate release for prisoners with AIDS, clean needle exchange and being dominant in the ACT UP national coalition for Universal Healthcare.
