The City of West Hollywood is considering significant changes to Fountain Avenue, including new bike facilities and widened sidewalks. Fountain currently has a high-collision rate, substandard sidewalks and few street trees. Data shows that 64% of the traffic on Fountain doesn’t have an origin or destination in West Hollywood. This presents an opportunity to develop a future Fountain Avenue that is more local-serving and safer for everyone, with wider sidewalks and improved access for those walking, biking, and in wheelchairs.
Benefits include Improved safety for all road users; increased comfort for people walking and biking; new street trees and landscaping; widened, ADA compliant sidewalks; all-day parking (no more peak hour restrictions); and maintained left turn lanes at signals. To make room for these improvements, one auto lane in both directions would be re-purposed, reducing auto capacity, and some parking would be lost.
We want to hear from you! Please attend our virtual workshop on Thursday, October 20th @ 6:30 PM (details below) to learn more about the alternatives and tradeoffs and let us know your preferences and priorities for an improved Fountain Avenue.
An online survey is also available here to share your preferences and priorities and provide written public comments.
