Write Out Proud the LGBTQIA+ writing workshop

  • Date: June 01, 2022 6:00 PM
  • Location: Online Event

*Free event, RSVP required.

Online Writing Workshops, Wednesdays and Saturdays in June

When we Write Out Proud, we share the love of who we are for the world to see, so the world can become better at loving us back. We write fun & flirty stories of our magical LGBTQIA+ selves influenced by our personal ideas of gender, sexuality, and sexual orientation. All are welcome, new & seasoned writers. Your story needs to be heard. Spread the words. Do something with community this pride season. Come write with us!

We will focus on our individual experiences, specifically how the representation of the classifications of the different LGBTQIA+ pride flags points to our stories of personal identity, growth, and freedom. The workshops will culminate in dynamic essay & memoir that will pledge allegiance to our communities, each other, our audiences, and the various pride flags we identify with. This heart moving experience punctuates the theme of the 2022 WeHo Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival, With Liberty, Diversity, Inclusion, and Progress for All.

This no-cost four session writing workshop in June on Zoom. There are two workshop groups, each with the same writing prompts & plans. One group meets on Wednesday evenings from 6-9p, the other group meets on Saturday afternoons from 1-4p.

Write Out Proud is facilitated by artist Don Tinling. It is modeled after the HIV Writers Workshop which he has been conducting since 2007. After surviving full-blown AIDS in 1996 Don joined the AIDS Project Los Angeles Writers Workshop, to bring him back into the world of the living. The healing traditions of that workshop continues to influence his work today. He created Write Out Proud to share the values of this work to benefit and strengthen LGBTQIA+ communities and to engage deeper in his Social Art practice.
