The First Ten Years is an online exhibition of thirty, art-therapy-based collaborations with children who have been affected by war. Since 2011, photographer Brian McCarty has been working with art therapists in the field to gather and narratively recreate children's firsthand accounts of survival, loss, and fear. He places and poses locally sourced toys at the actual locations, using the pantomime of toys to present the harsh realities of war through a disarming filter of play.
