Commemoration of Victory in Europe Day/WWII Memorial Day
LOCATION: Plummer Park
DATE: Sunday, May 8, 2022
TIME: 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
DESCRIPTION: The Russian Advisory Board is inviting members of the community to join the WWII Veterans, their family members and friends at the WWII Veterans Memorial in Plummer park to lay flowers and wreaths, share stories and remember those who fought on the fronts of WWII.
Victory in Europe Day marks the defeat of the Nazi forces and remembers the estimated 50 million people who died during World War II. The commemoration day is an act of admiration and remembrance of all who fought against the Nazis during the WWII. It goes beyond politics; it shows that we will always be grateful for WWII heroes and never forget the sacrifices they made. With Nazism on the rise worldwide, the commemoration has taken on a new and urgent meaning, as it honors the soldiers who fought and many who perished in the fight against Nazism. For many community members it is about parents’, grandparents’, and great grandparents’ role in the war and re-confirmation of their status as family heroes no matter their military or civil defense rank, or whether or not they survived. The commemoration will have an educational impact on the community and younger generation.
