The City of West Hollywood has a long history of being on the cutting edge of new artistic and musical endeavors. West Hollywood also has the unique distinction of being the City that gave the world Go-Go dancers. The Whisky A Go-Go opened its doors in 1964 and soon after launched a trend that would ultimately become the norm in clubs all over the world by suspending cages with Go-Go dancers from the ceiling of the club. Go-Go Dancer Appreciation Day will feature festivities Citywide to celebrate and honor the City’s legacy of creativity, diversity and innovation as well as the Go-Go dancers and music venues that started a worldwide trend. Events on Go-Go Dancer Appreciation Day will include an amateur Go-Go Dancer competition on Larrabee Street, north of Santa Monica Boulevard, with celebrity judges and prizes in six categories. Eleven Nightclub will also feature a choreographed show titled, “Evolution of Go-Go.” For more information on times, events and participating venues, please visit: www.weho.org or www.wehogogofest.com
