Curator David J. Getsy's public lecture, “Rubbish and Dreams: The Genderqueer Performance Art of Stephen Varble in 1970s New York" will provide a behind the scenes overview of Varble’s dynamic and disruptive career as a performance artist, playwright, filmmaker, and video artist. Antagonistic to commercialism and art’s institutions, Varble stormed galleries, boutiques, and banks in glamorous gender-confounding costumes made from trash. Free Validated Parking will be provided for attendees in the five-story public/Park Parking Structure.
