In Celebration of National Women’s History Month on International Women’s Day, the City of West Hollywood will host the premiere of the new short film Brave Girl Rising, which tells how a courageous girl, inspired by the magical dreams of her mother and the sisterhood of friends, succeeds in getting the education she deserves. This powerfully emotional film is a collaboration with acclaimed Somali poet Warsan Shire (Beyonce’s Lemonade) and voiced by actors Tessa Thompson (Sorry to Bother You, Men in Black: International and Golden Globe winner David Oyelowo, this short film is a testament to how hope and love can propel us beyond even the bleakest of circumstances. The program is presented in conjunction with the City’s annual West Hollywood Women’s Leadership Conference & Network Mini-film Festival and its Human Rights Speaker Series. Special guest speakers include director and Martha Adams and Sarah Smith, Senior Director of Education at the International Rescue. Committee.
