Join us for a conversation with Vanita Gupta, a long-time civil rights lawyer who heads the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, one of the leading organizations in Washington, D.C., fighting the current Administration’s anti-civil rights agenda.  She will be in conversation with Karin Wang, Executive Director of the David J. Epstein Program in Public interest Law and Policy at UCLA School of Law, and a former civil rights lawyer at Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles.

From 2014 to 2017, Gupta served as Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General and head of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, overseeing high-profile matters such as the investigations of the Ferguson, Baltimore, and Chicago police departments; the challenge to North Carolina’s HB2 law and other transgender rights litigation; and enforcement of education, land use, hate crimes, and other statutes to combat religious discrimination.  Prior to joining the DOJ, Gupta litigated detention, mass incarceration, wrongful conviction, and other criminal justice issues at the ACLU and the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund.
