Celebration Theatre presents as part of its New Works Reading Series “For The People” by Carol Mullen, a very timely work as we head into mid-term elections. This is one of, if not, the strongest script received for Celebration New Works.
Synopsis: Thirty-one-year old City Councilmember Meg Cabot is the first openly lesbian elected official in the state of Pennsylvania. She's less than a month into her first term when a vicious hate crime targeting the city's Lesbian and Gay Community Center puts Meg in the middle of a media maelstrom. But tragedy leads to possibility when Meg's new national visibility catches the attention of Democratic Party leaders, who see in Meg a rising star. With her hard-driving chief of staff steering her towards a once-in-a-lifetime professional opportunity, Meg must decide how far she'll go to advance her career. For The People is a timely tale of tested values that begs the question: is it possible to be both a good person and a successful politician?
