Stay involved in landlord/tenant cost sharing for seismic retrofitting.
Earthquake/Seismic Safety – Protecting Renters and Rent Stabilized Housing
Join us June 16 to learn about the Rent Stabilization Commission’s June 14 discussion and possible recommendation on landlord/tenant cost-sharing for seismic retrofitting. Right now, landlords are able to file for a rent increase if building operation costs, including costs for seismic retrofitting, exceed rent collected. The potential rent increase is permanent and all tenants would have to pay the higher rent. An alternative to possible permanent rent increases is allowing a pass-through which can be capped at a maximum dollar amount each month and limited to a specific number of years. The pass-through goes away after a percent of project costs are collected. Financial hardship waivers could be possible.

Caring for our residents and protecting rent stabilized housing are top priorities for the City of West Hollywood. Many older apartment buildings are not retrofitted to withstand large earthquakes, and that why the City has developed a mandatory seismic retrofit program, to protect residents and help minimize damage to our housing and neighborhoods.
This is an open public meeting. There is no charge to attend, and no RSVP
is required.
