National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Each day, approximately, 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet. In an effort to curb this public safety and public health problem, the City of West Hollywood will participate in the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, 780 N. San Vicente Boulevard in West Hollywood. The goal of National Take Back Day is to provide a safe drop off place for unwanted and unused prescription drugs.

“The City is proud to host the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at our West Hollywood Sheriff's Station,” said West Hollywood Councilmember Abbe Land. “This is an opportunity to properly dispose of expired prescription medication, or of medication you no longer need. It is important to properly dispose of these medications, so they aren't going into the water or waste systems, where children, animals and others may be unintentionally impacted,” continued Councilmember Land.
