Nonhuman Rights Project Film Screening and Panel

A free screening of “Unlocking the Cage”, Chris Hegedus and D A Pennebaker’s critically acclaimed documentary about the Nonhuman Rights Project’s work to secure legal rights for nonhuman animals, followed by a Q&A with NhRP attorney Elizabeth Stein

WHY: To foster community discussion about how the law views and treats nonhuman animals in the context of the Nonhuman Rights Project’s work to secure legal rights for great apes, elephants, dolphins, and whales.

Join the Nonhuman Rights Project for a free screening of the film that comedian Jon Stewart said made him “proud to be a primate.” Directed by world-renowned documentarians Chris Hegedus and D A Pennebaker, Unlocking the Cage follows the NhRP’s novel mission and work to transform nonhuman animals from legal “things” with no rights to “persons” with fundamental rights, beginning with four captive chimpanzees in New York. A Q&A discussion with NhRP Elizabeth Stein and a reception will follow the screening.

This event is free and open to the public.  RSVP at https://tinyurl.com/utcLA
