2018 City of West Hollywood Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

The 2018 City of West Hollywood Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service event will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at West Hollywood Elementary School, located at 970 N. Hammond Street. Volunteers are needed to help perform various landscaping, clean-up, painting, and other beautifying tasks at the school. All tasks involve physical labor and volunteers are expected to be available to work a six-hour shift. Volunteers must be at least 12 years of age to take part and participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and lunch. Space is limited and advance registration is required to volunteer. As part of this year’s MLK, Jr. Day of Service, local volunteers will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Jewish Family Service’s SOVA Food and Community Resource Program, and collecting donations of new and used clothing and shoes for the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Youth Center on Highland. Donations will be collected curbside at West Hollywood Elementary School between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day federal holiday as a National Day of Service. Each year, the City of West Hollywood participates in this call to action. Community partners for this year’s event include Friends of West Hollywood Elementary and Anawalt Lumber.
