This award-winning, interactive workshop helps participants to take charge and not let balance issues rule their life.
The City of West Hollywood’s Be Well WeHo program invites enrollment in A Matter of Balance. Falling is not just about age! People can be at risk of falling for many reasons. Poor posture, vertigo, joint issues, and poor muscle tone, are just some of the conditions that can increase your risk of falling. And even one bad fall can cause you to curtail activities out of a fear of another fall. But it does not have to be that way! Don’t give in! Developed by Boston University, A Matter of Balance emphasizes practical strategies to not only reduce the risk and fear of falling but also increase confidence during daily activities.
In this highly interactive class, participants learn to:
- view falls and the fear of falling as controllable
- set realistic goals to increase activity
- change their environment to reduce fall risk factors
- apply strategies to increase strength and balance
Over the eight sessions, through brainstorming and discussions, participants identify a variety of strategies and options to address their particular concerns and needs. This is not an exercise class (although there is an exercise component). It is a class that will help you feel confident, strong and able to continue your favorite activities safely!
