City of West Hollywood Human Rights Speakers Series Community Screening of 13th

The City of West Hollywood Human Rights Speakers Series presents a very special community event featuring an exclusive screening of the award-winning documentary film 13th by Ava DuVernay. Nominated for 8 Emmy Awards, 13th explores the intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States.  It is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which abolished slavery in the United States (except as a punishment for crime). In this thought-provoking documentary, scholars, activists and politicians analyze the criminalization of African Americans and the U.S. prison boom.  The mission of the City of West Hollywood’s Human Rights Speakers Series is to bring together diverse communities to learn about and discuss global, national and local human rights issues in a supportive environment. It is a continuation of the City of West Hollywood’s core value of Respect and Support for People.
