WeHo Arts: Domenic Priore on The Rise of Counterculture in West Hollywood

  • Date: February 08, 2017 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
  • Location: West Hollywood Park Public Meeting Room/City Council Chambers
    625 N. San Vicente Boulevard

The City of West Hollywood, through WeHo Arts, marks the 50th anniversary of one of the pivotal moments of music and protest of the 1960s — the Sunset Strip Curfew Riots. The City will host a talk by Domenic Priore, author of Riot on Sunset Strip: Rock 'n' Roll's Last Stand in Hollywood (2015 Jawbone Press, London), who will explore the specific moment between 1965 and 1966 that the Sunset Strip became the epicenter of the folk music scene, which had previously been harbored in Greenwich Village, New York City. That turning point began when Bob Dylan first took the stage with The Byrds at Ciro’s and the scene flourished as musicians and bands such as Frank Zappa, Love, and Buffalo Springfield became world-famous. For more history and information about the anniversary program 'There's Something Happening Here...On The Sunset Strip,' including related events and exhibits, a downloadable brochure, map of historic locations, and links to music, books, and film, please visit www.bit.ly/SunsetStrip66.
