WHAP! stands for the West Hollywood Aesthetics and Politics lecture series, which is supported by the City of West Hollywood through WeHo Arts (www.weho.org/arts). The plot-driven genres of the detective novel and political thriller boast the peculiar feature of being epistemological dramas. For TV and movie adaptations, this also poses the interesting problem of how to make thinking and the cognitive reconfiguration of information visible on-screen. This lecture is presented by Robin Mackay, director of Urbanomic and editor of its journal, Collapse, who is also an Associate Research Fellow at Goldsmiths University of London.
