The City of West Hollywood’s Lesbian Speakers Series, WeHo Reads, and the Mazer Lesbian Archives present a panel based on the book Baby, You Are My Religion – Women, Gay Bars, and Theology Before Stonewall, by Dr. Marie Cartier. The event will be an examination of the American butch-femme bar culture of the mid-20th century as sacred space for its community, and will feature Dr. Cartier in conversation with Marna Deitch, Tanya Gilbert, and Nancy Valverde. Film clips will be shown from the documentary film The Homofiles, based on the book. There will be book sales and signing after the program.
