Dancing, M-powered. MULTIPLEX DANCE presents the West Hollywood Dance Festival, celebrating the joy of creativity, the rigor of professional dance training, and the transformative power of live dance performance through dance classes, free community workshops and public performances, creating a place and space for people to engage with the art form in a variety of ways.
DANCE INTENSIVE
WHDF includes a 5-day dance intensive training program geared for pre-professional and professional dancers (ages 14 and up) featuring top teaching professionals in the field. All classes follow MXD’s mission:
TAIKOPLEX Community Dance and Drumming Workshop – Tuesday August 16th
Ground Yourself. Focus your energy. Find your voice. Unleash your power.
At this hands-on workshop, you will learn to find and channel your ki (heart, mind and spirit) and hara (body’s center) through the art of Taiko, Japanese folk drumming. Creative director Shih-wei Wu will demonstrate and lead ki-ai exercises, where your voice becomes the gateway to find your inner strength and express your power through drumming. No prior music or dance experience is necessary.
INTERFACE Community Dance Workshop – Thursday August 18th 5-7pm
Grab your phone, log in, and get moving!
Join MXD creative directors Chad Michael Hall and John Toenjes in a playful and innovative workshop that guides you through movement activities that engage with mobile apps and social media, inspiring you to utilize your smartphone as a creative tool for generating dancing and choreography! No prior dance experience is necessary, but be sure to bring your smartphone to the event!
OPEN REHEARSALS – August 16-19th 3:00-4:30pm
