Multiplex/West Hollywood Dance Festival: TAIKOPLEX Community Dance and Drumming Workshop

TAIKOPLEX Community Dance and Drumming Workshop – Tuesday August 16th

Ground Yourself.  Focus your energy.  Find your voice.  Unleash your power.

At this hands-on workshop, you will learn to find and channel your ki (heart, mind and spirit) and hara (body’s center) through the art of Taiko, Japanese folk drumming. Creative director Shih-wei Wu will demonstrate and lead ki-ai exercises, where your voice becomes the gateway to find your inner strength and express your power through drumming.  No prior music or dance experience is necessary.

This free event which is part of the Multiplex Dance's West Hollywood Dance Festival is sponsored through a grant from the City of West Hollywood through WeHo Arts (www.weho.org/arts), celebrating the joy of creativity, the rigor of professional dance training, and the transformative power of live dance performance through dance classes, free community workshops and public performances, creating a place and space for people to engage with the art form in a variety of ways. The Dance Festival includes these other events:

DANCE INTENSIVE

WHDF includes a 5-day dance intensive training program geared for pre-professional and professional dancers (ages 14 and up) featuring top teaching professionals in the field.  All classes follow MXD’s mission:

INTERFACE Community Dance Workshop – Thursday August 18th 5-7pm

Grab your phone, log in, and get moving!

Join MXD creative directors Chad Michael Hall and John Toenjes in a playful and innovative workshop that guides you through movement activities that engage with mobile apps and social media, inspiring you to utilize your smartphone as a creative tool for generating dancing and choreography!  No prior dance experience is necessary, but be sure to bring your smartphone to the event!

OPEN REHEARSALS – August 16-19th 3:00-4:30pm

Come and observe the creative process of Chad Michael Hall as he stages his latest choreography Flux for inclusion in the festival performances.  All are welcome to observe these open rehearsals.
