WeHo Pedals Bike Share Education Class, “Learn to Pedal,” is a hands-on experience that aims to educate and encourage the public to use the bike share system as informed, safe, and lawful cyclists. In this 120-minute practicum, participants will learn how to unlock, adjust, and use all of the features of a WeHo Pedals bicycle. The group led by two (2) League Cycling Instructors, designated by Sustainable Streets, will practice safe riding skills in a vacant paved area such as scanning, signaling, braking, merging, and turning; and they will review basic traffic principles such as speed positioning, lane positioning, sidewalk riding etiquette, obeying road signs and signals, yielding, and riding on the right. They will learn also West Hollywood’s local bicycle laws, how to navigate the roadway safely, and how to be a defensive, smart cyclist so that they may have a safe, lawful, and fun experience while using WeHo Pedals Bike Share. Finally, the group will ride around West Hollywood to practice riding in traffic and learn how to dock the bikes at bike share stations and public racks. Cost is free. All participants will receive a free helmet.
Space is limited to maximum of 15 participants. RSVP to Sustainable Streets (http://www.sustainablestreets.org/class-schedule.html).
