Bicycling in West Hollywood

There are many ways to explore West Hollywood without a car. Navigating West Hollywood car-free has never been easier by foot, bike, or by transit. Going car-free creates new opportunities to run into friends and meet new ones. Enjoy the fresh air on a beautiful day, see places you never noticed, and exercise along the way.

The City of West Hollywood is committed to supporting multi-modal transportation options and promoting the City as a walkable and bikeable place. In 2017, the City of West Hollywood adopted its Pedestrian and Bicycle Mobility Plan (PBMP), which provides a roadmap to improving the City’s pedestrian and bicycle environment. The PBMP identifies several categories of projects, including improvements at unsignalized crosswalks, signalized intersections, and bicycle improvements throughout the City.

West Hollywood has bike lanes on many major streets. For a more leisurely ride, consider taking smaller residential streets such as Willoughby or Sweetzer, ideally suited for bicycles, and be sure to lock your bike on one of the many bike racks throughout the City. Always wear a helmet and ride safely!

Transportation, consisting primarily of on-road vehicles, is the most significant contributor of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Los Angeles County, with share estimates ranging from 30-50% of total emissions. In the City of West Hollywood, passenger vehicles and trucks contribute to roughly 1,000,000 average weekday vehicle miles traveled, resulting in more than 62,000 metric tons of CO2. The City has established a goal of community-wide carbon neutrality by 2035. Research from the University of Oxford suggests that choosing a bike over a car just once a day yields a 67% reduction in a citizen’s emissions from transport. Replacing weekday vehicle trips with bicycle trips is part of a strategy to reduce the City’s net emissions.
